These notes cover the different ways to add the artwork for a half page content to MagManager
Half Page Content - No Bleed
Option 1 - if your half page content uses the same margins as those set up in MagManager
Option 2 - If your half page content requires larger margins than those set up in MagManager
Half Page Content - With Bleed
Option 1 - Upload the fully designed page including the content and advert as a page override
Option 2 - Upload the content as a page background
Half Page Content - No Bleed
Option 1 - if your half page content uses the same margins as those set up in MagManager
Design your content to the half page size 148 x 108mm - with no additional border added. The text should be as close to the edge as possible. As MagManager takes care of the margins as per your page layout settings.
Export as a PDF with no crop marks and no bleed.
From the flatplan > Click the centre of the content box to open Content Details > Click Upload Artwork to upload the PDF file > Click Save
From the flatplan hover over the page number and click when Layout appears. From the Layout screen > Click Preview With Trim to see a proof onscreen.
A proof will appear on screen with the green trim box showing where the page will be trimmed by the printer.
Artwork uploaded this way will be set exactly as per your page layout and advert size settings in MagManager and no adjustment will be necessary.
Option 2 - If your half page content requires larger margins than those set up in MagManager
You will need to factor that in at the design stage.
To replicate this page
The content was set in a template **142 x 108mm with 6mm margins. (To allow a larger margin than the current 4mm inside and 2mm outside margins) & exported as a PDF (no bleed, no crop marks). With the PDF file uploaded to a half page artwork box in MagManager.
The dividing line was set as a master page on the flatplan page layout settings for the page.
The advert was uploaded as is and is automatically set to the advert size 142 x 108mm. If you look closely at the preview below, you can see the 4mm margin on the left, 2mm margin on the right & bottom. The green line is where the page will be trimmed by the printer.
** 142 x 108mm is the current half page landscape advert size based on margins of 2mm top, bottom & outside, 4mm inside and 2mm spacing between adverts.
From the flatplan hover over the page number and click when Layout appears.
From the Layout screen > Click Preview With Trim to see a proof onscreen.
A proof will appear in a new tab with the green trim box showing where the page will be trimmed by the printer. From that you'll be able to see if you need to make any adjustments to how you create the half page in your design software.
Half Page Content - With Bleed
To replicate the example below:
Option 1 - Upload the fully designed page including the content and advert as a page override
Once the page is fully designed the PDF file should be exported with cropmarks & bleed.
From the flatplan hover over the page number and click when layout is displayed > Toggle on the Override Page Artwork setting > Click the Upload Artwork button to upload the PDF > Click Save.
NOTE: Using the override page artwork setting will override any existing artwork already on the page.
To check the design > Hover over the page number and click when Layout appears > Click Preview with Trim.
A proof will appear on screen with the green trim box showing where the page will be trimmed by the printer.
Option 2 - Upload the content as a page background
Using this option, the half page content should be layed out on a full page template in your design software, with the bottom half blank.
NOTE: Any lines between the advert and content would need to be part of the design.
Export the PDF with cropmarks & bleed.
In MagManager go to the flatplan > Locate Page Background in the side bar > Click to expland > Drag & drop a New Content box onto a page of the flatplan.
The content details pop up will open > Click Upload Artwork to upload the PDF file > Enter a Title > Turn on the Crop Marks & Has Bleed setting > Click Save
When the half page advert is added to the flatplan it will look like this:
Note: when using a page background the grid lines are still visible on the flatplan page.
To check the design > Hover over the page number and click when Layout appears > Click Preview with Trim.
A proof will appear on screen with the green trim box showing where the page will be trimmed by the printer. You may need to go back to your design software and adjust to get the layout spot on.
