Flipbooks created via AutoPublish

The process to create the digital flipbok via AutoPublish:

1 - Upload the client's artwork and save it, you will see the 'Edit Links' button.  This takes you to the Advert Link Editor from there you can detect links or manually add links to the advert.

2 - Once the flatplan is complete, set all pages as complete, this starts the process of the page being created that forms the digital flipbook.

Both of these are covered in the steps below.

Exiting flipbook users - if you already have the web & social media links set up on the client record, they will continue to work in the normal way in addition to the new features.

2025-07-02 18 09 28 web and social.png

When only the website is entered in the web & social fields of the client detils tab, the whole advert within the flipbook will click through to the client's website.

When multiple web & social details are entered, clicking on the advert within the flipbook will open the box with the links to all of their web & social media pages.

In addition, when viewing the flipbook if any links have been auto-detected or manually added to the artwork such as telephone and email links, these will highlight when you hover over the link and display the link title.

How to detect links for new artwork

When new artwork is uploaded, the links are automatically detected. You can check the links and add more from the flatplan (or any page you access artwork).

Click to open the artwork > Either drag & drop the artwork or click Upload Artwork, locate the file and click Open > Click Save

IMPORTANT: If the artwork is a full page ensure you have the correct 'Crop Marks & Has Bleed' settings turned on before you Edit Links or mark the page as complete.  This will ensure the correct positioning of any links you add within the digital flipbook.

To check the links > Click to open the artwork > Click Edit Links - any links found will automatically be created.

How to detect links for existing artwork

From the flatplan (or any page you access artwork) Click to open the artwork > Click Edit Links > Click Detect Links - MagManger will check for links within the PDF and create them for you.

NOTE: Links can only be detected in PDF files.  Artwork files uploaded as JPG or PNG will need to have links manually added.

How to manually add links to artwork

From the flatplan (or any page you access artwork) Click to open the artwork > Click Edit Links > To add a link, start drawing around the website address, the email address, phone number or any where you want to add a link, if the data can be read the details will appear in the right side panel > Check the details have been correctly detected or edit as necessary > You can edit the Title description - this is the description that appears when you hover over a link > The Type of Link - identifies the type of link and the Link itself > The Link Border Colour & Link Background Colour will pick up the publications defaults, or can be edited here on an individual basis > Click Save to update.

How to delete links

From the flatplan (or any page you access artwork) Click to open the artwork > Click Edit Links > To delete a link > Click on the link > The link details will appear in the right side panel > Click the red Delete button and the link is immediately removed.

Marking pages as complete

Once you have detected the links or manually added links to the artwork. The next step would be to complete the flatplan layout.  Once the layout is complete all pages should be marked as complete.  It's the process of marking the page as complete that creates the page that forms part of the digital flipbook.

You can mark a page as complete in three ways:

1-  Hover over the page number and click to bring up the page layout:

Then, towards the bottom, switch ‘Layout Complete’ on so that the toggle is green.

2 - You can mark pages as complete by clicking the red cross, bottom left of each page on the flatplan.  Once marked as complete the red cross will change to a green tick and the gold border will appear around the page.

3 - Finally you can mark pages as complete from the Quick Layout screen, accessed via the flatplan overview > Under Layout Complete > Turn the toggle switch on - blue setting.

All pages should be marked as complete. For a quick overview, anything that has been marked as complete on your flatplan will have an gold border around it as below:

How to add page links to the advertiser index

This should be done after you have created your print ready file, as you will regenerate the index page to add digital links.  With the digital links you can click on the index listing and be taken directly to the page of the flipbook where the advertiser appears.

From the flatplan, make sure all pages (except the index) are marked as complete, by clicking the red x at the bottom of each page or opening the page layout and turning on the Layout Complete toggle switch.

Take the page complete setting off the index page > Click back to the flatplan overview > Select Advertiser Index > Switch on Create Flipbook Links toggle switch > Click Generate PDF.

Click View Flatplan > Turn the page complete setting back on for the index page (click the red x bottom left corner of the page) - this will generate a new index page with digital page links.

How to manually add links to the flipbook

Once your flipbook is complete, ie you have added all the required links to new and existing artwork and all pages have been marked as complete.  You have the option to add links directly to the flipbook.

The main type of link you'll add in this way would be a page number link.  Example to link the listing on the front page to the article inside.

NOTE: Do not add links directly to the flipbook before it is complete, as they will be removed if you need to regenerate the page.

These links are only valid for the flipbook they are added to, they are not carried forward to other issues or publications or retained on the artwork.

The types of links that can be added are:
URL - Provides a link to any website
Email - Provides a mail to link
Telephone - Provides a call link
Page No - Provides a link to another page of the flipbook
YouTube - Embeds a YouTube video and provides a direct link to the video on YouTube with the option to Auto-Play the video on click through.

Note: MagManager uses the YouTube API to link directly to YouTube, so it's important to use the correct link to the video.  Right click on the video > Click Copy Video URL > Paste this into the link field in MagManager.  Copying the URL from the address bar will not work.

Opens
Definition: When a user opens your publication—i.e., clicks on it to view it in full screen
What it means: It counts as someone views a page but hasn't interacted with the flipbook                 •               Use case: Reflects active interest—the person was curious enough to check it out.

Reads
Definition: A read is counted when someone spends time actually reading your publication—usually by staying on a page for over a second, flipping through pages won't count as a read
What it means: Indicates deeper engagement—not just a click, but meaningful time spent with your content.
Use case: A better indicator of content quality and reader retention.

Example:
If 100 people open your magazine but only 30 read it, it suggests:
100 were interested enough to take a look.
Only 30 found it compelling enough to stay and engage.

Reader
Definition: The number of unique users who have opened the publication.
What it means: If a user opens the publications multiple times it will only record as a single reader

NOTE: When you are logged into MagManager and open the flipbook to check it, within the same browser this is not recorded as an open.

Trouble shooting

Q - The flipbook page is blank.

Screenshot_2022-07-21_093532.jpg

A - Marking the page as complete starts the process of the page being created that forms part of the digital flipbook.  Check the flatplan and mark the page as complete.  If the page is already marked as complete take the setting off and put it back on again, this will regenerate the page.

If that hasn't resolved it then it's likely an issue with your PDF file and it needs flattened.

In Adobe Pro go to Use Print Production > Flattener Preview > Select the settings as per the screenshot below > Click Apply > Save the file and upload it to MagManger.

Q - The wrong artwork is displayed in the digital flipbook compared to the flatplan. In the example below the flipbook is showing the bird article, while the flatplan shows the sleep article.

Screenshot_2022-07-21_094105.jpg

A - The most common reason for this, is the flipbook being cached on your computer.

The easiest way to tell if it's a browser cache issue is to open the flipbook on another device.

To refresh the cache, you should have the cached web page open in your browser and follow one of the steps below – this forces the web browser to retrieve the webpage from the server instead of loading it from the cache memory, if multiple pages are like this you may need to repeat the process for each page:

PC – hard refresh on most browsers
Hold down Ctrl then press F5.

Mac – hard refresh on Google Chrome browser
Hold down the Cmd and Shift Key then press R.

Mac – hard refresh on Safari browser
Hold down the Option and Cmd key then press the E key

The other reason for this is that the page has been marked as complete, which starts the process of the page being created for the flipbook and later the artwork is changed.  To resolve this, you need to force a refresh of the page by taking the page complete setting off and putting it back on again.
