1) Creating a digital edition using Auto-publish

If you already use Auto-publish, as long as you have marked your pages as complete, your digital version will automatically be created.

You can mark a page as complete in two ways:

1-  Click on the page number to bring up the page layout:

Then, towards the bottom, switch ‘Layout Complete’ on so that the toggle is green.

2 - You can also mark pages as complete by clicking the red cross on the bottom left of each page on the flatplan.  Once marked as complete the red cross will change to a green tick and the orange border will appear around the page.

You will need to do this to every page you want to show up in your publication. For a quick view, anything that has been marked as complete on your flatplan will have an orange border around it like so:

When all pages are marked as complete, Go to the flatplan overview > Select AutoPublish Options > Select Preview - which will show you the digital copy:

You can copy & paste this code straight into your website. It will also give you an icon of the front cover of your publication that displays on your website. The icon size will be 100px x 100px (you can find this in the code above, 3rd line down). If you want the publication to appear bigger or smaller on your website, you can simply edit the sizes from 100px to whatever size suits your requirements.

Note: Before uploading your pdf, please ensure the number of pages in the pdf match the number of pages on the flatplan. Follow the steps here if you need to add/remove pages.

From the flatplan overview select 'Auto Publish Options' then select Upload Pdf.

If you want this to appear bigger or smaller on your website, you can simply edit the sizes from 100px to whatever size you desire.

3 - Digital Edition - Links To Client Website & Social Media

Digital links to your clients website and social media links are embedded in the flipbook when it's created in Auto-Publish for the following advert sizes, Full Page, Half Page Landscape, Half Page Portrait, Quarter Page, Quarter Landscape & Eighth Page. (The digital links are not embedded if you upload a PDF - Section 2 above)

NOTE - The digital links come from the data under Web & Social on the client details tab.  So any changes you make there will NOT be updated on the Digital Edition AFTER it has been created.  Ensure all website and social media links are correct before you create the Digital Edition.  Otherwise you will need to take the page complete setting on the flatplan off and put it back on again to regenerate the page.

3.1 On the client details page enter the URL of their website and social media channels

Tip - Clicking on the icon to the left will open up their website or social media page - if it doesn't check the spelling.  To avoid any errors copy and paste the URL directly from the website.

3.2 How the website and social media links are displayed

When the Digital Edition flip book is open - if you click on an advert which has a website AND social media links set up in their client details page.  A pop up box will appear with icons linking to their website and social medial profiles, as below.

If you click on an advert which has ONLY a website link set up in their client details page, clicking on the advert will take you directly to their website.

4 - View Open Rates

To view the open rates of your digital flipbook.  Go to system settings > Under Publications & Bookings > Select Publications > Click the publication name > On the issues tab look for the Flip Book Opens column, each time the publication is viewed the number displayed will increase.

5 - Trouble Shooting

Q - The flipbook page is blank.

Screenshot_2022-07-21_093532.jpg

A - Marking the page as complete starts the process of the PDF file being created that forms part of the digital flipbook.  Check the flatplan and mark the page as complete.  If the page is already marked as complete take the setting off and put it back on again, this will regenerate the PDF for that page.

If that hasn't resolved it then it's likely an issue with your PDF file and it needs flattened.

In Adobe Pro go to Use Print Production > Flattener Preview > Select the settings as per the screenshot below > Click Apply > Save the file and upload it to MagManger.

Q - The wrong artwork is displayed in the digital flipbook compared to the flatplan. In the example below the flipbook is showing the bird article, while the flatplan shows the sleep article.

Screenshot_2022-07-21_094105.jpg

A - The most common reason for this, is the flipbook being cached on your computer.

The easiest way to tell if it's a browser cache issue is to open the flipbook on another device.

To refresh the cache, you should have the cached web page open in your browser and follow one of the steps below – this forces the web browser to retrieve the webpage from the server instead of loading it from the cache memory, if multiple pages are like this you may need to repeat the process for each page:

PC – hard refresh on most browsers
Hold down Ctrl then press F5.

Mac – hard refresh on Google Chrome browser
Hold down the Cmd and Shift Key then press R.

Mac – hard refresh on Safari browser
Hold down the Option and Cmd key then press the E key

The other reason for this is that the page has been marked as complete, which starts the process of the  PDF being created for the flipbook and later the artwork is changed.  To resolve this, you need to force a refresh of the page by taking the page complete setting off and putting it back on again.
